ECT* Awarded Highly Competitive ASI PhD Fellowship for Research on Ab Initio-Guided Design of Radiation-Tolerant High-Entropy Alloys for Space Technologies and ADvanced Nuclear Energy Systems in Space

Following the success of a highly competitive Italian Space Agency (ASI) call, in which the proposal was ranked 20th out of 493 applications, ECT* researchers Simone Taioli, Giovanni Garberoglio and Maurizio Dapor were awarded a PhD fellowship to design next-generation High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) for future space missions. Their research will combine first-principles simulations, artificial intelligence and multiscale modelling to develop radiation-resistant materials for extreme environments. It will investigate the effects of cosmic radiation on complex materials and create predictive tools for space technologies and nuclear energy systems.

The fellowship starts in November 2026 and runs until September 2029.
