Workshop with the Accademia Roveretana degli Agiati
On February 4 and 5, 2026, ECT*/FBK researchers Giovanni Garberoglio and Simone Taioli will present their work at the workshop “Esperimenti mentali tra fisica e filosofia”, bridging the gap between historical theory and modern science. The workshop, organized by Maurizio Dapor (ECT*/FBK) and Manuela Valle (University of Trento), explores how the impossible experiments of the mind solve the practical problems of reality.
Among the other speakers are Elisabetta Cattanei (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano), Antoine Houlou-Garcia (University of Trento), Michele Camerota (University of Cagliari), and Federico Laudisa (University of Trento).
Simone Taioli will deliver the talk “Galileo, visionario della modernità” (Galileo, Visionary of Modernity). This talk dives into Galileo’s intellectual journey, analyzing how his unique blend of hypothesis, observation, and deduction laid the foundations for the modern scientific method.
Giovanni Garberoglio will present the talk “Il diavolo nei dettagli” (The Devil in the Details). Focusing on the fascinating paradoxes of thermodynamics, this talk explores how a “box of disordered balls” and a “mischievous demon” (Maxwell’s demon) guided the development of statistical mechanics, entropy, and information theory.
The event will take place in the conference room of the Fondazione Caritro, Piazza Rosmini 5, Rovereto.
