The purpose of the workshop is to discuss the fundamental issues related to protonneutron pairing and alpha-type correlations in nuclei from the perspective of the most recent studies. The discussions will be focused on the accuracy of various calculations schemes employed for the treatment of proton-neutron pairing, on the emergence of alpha-like quartet correlations in N=Z nuclei and on the recent attempts to find the evidence of proton-neutron pairing correlations from transfer reactions and other observables.
